SLL is committed to offer physical activity for all.
The specialist equipment based at Stevenage Lifestyles has helped many people with medical conditions to be able to enjoy the benefits of exercise. Customers who are using the equipment have various health problems including: osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, stroke, MS, Parkinson’s, joint replacement, back conditions, figromyalgia and musculo-skeletal injuries. Use of the equipment is included in all Exercise Referral memberships regardless of what SLL facility you attend. Alternatively you can pay as you go.

Anti-gravity treadmill
The treadmill looks and works like a regular treadmill, the difference is that it supports the user and allows them to regain function and weight bear as tolerated by changing gravity in one percent increments to as low as 20% of the users body weight.  The treadmill is suitable for people who are able to stand for a minimum of 90 seconds without support

Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) Bike
This bike allows people who find cycling on a regular bike difficult or impossible.  Electrodes applied to the skin of the user send electric impulses to the different muscle groups of the legs and buttocks. A sensor at the front wheel of the bike transmits the current pedal position to the FES computer. The computer then coordinates which muscles have to be stimulated at what time to generate a cycling motion. Most people with spinal cord injury who have a spastic paralysis can use the FES bike. If you are paralysed this could be the right choice for you.
