11.05.2020

The Gordon Craig Theatre and The Grove Theatre both achieved national recognition for their pantomime productions at the Great British Pantomime Awards, held live on Facebook and YouTube from 29th April – 3rd May 2020.

Managed by Stevenage Leisure Ltd (SLL) in partnership with SBC, the 507 seat Gordon Craig Theatre was presented with the Best Leading Female Award for Grace Lancaster’s portrayal of Beauty in Jordan Productions Beauty and the Beast. Jason Addison was also nominated for Best Lighting Design. This follows the Gordon Craig’s win last year where they were presented with Best Pantomime (750 seats and under) and best Villain (Hannah Jane Fox) for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 2018/19.

In addition to this, also managed by SLL in partnership with CBC, the 780 seat Grove Theatre was presented with the Best Villain Award for Richard David-Caine’s portrayal of Captain Hook in Peter Pan. Jo Osmond was also nominated for Best Mythical Being/Fairy.

The Great British Pantomime Awards celebrates the Pantomime Industry. Judges are selected from a range of backgrounds including industry professionals, theatre academics, media and communication professionals and members of the public.

David Brame, CEO of SLL, said: “We’re delighted that both theatres have received recognition for their pantomimes. The teams put in extremely hard work and it’s a fantastic achievement for all involved.”
