Family Tips
If you’re planning on visiting Skate Letchworth with your family over the festive period, here are our six top tips to help you make the most of your time on the ice.
Arrive in plenty of time
Make sure that you allow yourself plenty of time when you arrive at the rink. Your session will start on the hour and you will be allowed into the facility to collect your skates approximately fifteen minutes before your start time. Arriving early will give you plenty of time to find the right skates for you and your family and you won’t feel rushed when getting ready to skate. It also means that you’ll get a full forty-five minutes of skating time too!
Wrap up warm
Skate Letchworth is a covered rink but it can still get very chilly inside, so make sure that you and your family come prepared for the cold by dressing appropriately. Wear comfortable clothes that are easy to move in and, of course, wrap up warm with hats and gloves.
Find the right size skates
It’s important that you have the right size skates when you take to the ice - too small and they will hurt your toes, too big and your feet can twist inwards, hurting your ankles. If you are in doubt about what size you need, our staff will be able to help you find the right size and can assist with adjusting the children’s skates so they are comfortable for your little ones.
Use skate aids
If this will be your child’s first time skating or if they are not very confident on the ice, we would recommend renting one of our penguin or polar bear skate aids for your session. These are free and can be used by children up to 110cm tall. Our skate aids are available on a first come, first served basis and cannot be booked in advance so we would advise that you arrive at the rink early to secure one.
Be safe
When you get on the ice make sure you take things slowly, it will take a while for both you and your children to get used to it and to find your balance. Be sure to follow the rules of the rink and remember, our ice marshals will be around at all times to encourage safe skating and to assist with any falls.
Have fun!
Above all else, ice skating is about having fun and enjoying your time on the ice. It’s a great experience for the whole family, especially during the festive period, so try to relax and have a good time!
